Ranking right up there with Eyes Wide Shut, Marie Antoinette is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. After two hours of watching people walk up stairs, walk down halls and eat breakfast, I was not even rewarded with the satisfaction of seeing these useless people beheaded. Never in my life have I felt so strongly that I wasted two hours of my life as I do now that I have seen this movie.

War of the Worlds was a priceless gem compared to this flop. The editor should be shot for not cutting the film down to a 5minute short: Girl is married off to a impotent prince. Prince finally gets it up. People get mad and the royalty leave. Nevermind, 2minutes would have done nicely.

It should be noted however that it would appear that I was alone in my distaste for this movie. Theresa enjoyed it thoroughly and will likely blog about it herself later. I would also like to point out however that she loved Eyes Wide Shut, something that makes even more sense to me now.

Melanie and I went theatre hopping yesterday and even though I saw three movies and paid for only one, I seriously feel as though I was ripped off. A brief review of each:

The Prestige (2/5)

The best of the 4 but not very good at all. If you're attracted to Christian Bale and/or Hugh Jackman then you might like this, otherwise, it's not very impressive, or interesting.

Babel (1/5)

I had such high hopes for this one and it was such a let down. From the trailer, the premise of the story is that various scenarios all occur due to the confusion of our many languages. As the story goes, the Lord looked down upon all mankind, and fearing their greatness, decided to confuse them with different languages so they they could never rival him... The message of the movie however is that that God is clearly an idiot: Mankind is just too stupid -- language has nothing to do with it. Please don't give this movie any money.

Running With Scissors (1/5)

Worse than babel, this one just went on and on and on. Not funny, not witty, just a bunch of insane people doing insane things with two less-insane kids in the middle. One of them gets out and writes a book about it.

Apparently, this is a true story, and that's the only thing that makes up for how bad it was... My condolences go out to the poor guy who lived through this.

Back in 2003, Torontonians saw something strange, somethey many of them had possibly never seen before: stars. It was the night of the Great Blackout and for the first time in about a century, the sky over Toronto was dark enough to see a real starry night.

I guess Lori and Kevin over at New Mind Space, miss that view a little, because they've managed to put together a night lights demonstration tonight at the University of Toronto. I don't know how it will work exactly, only that Christmas-ish lights and helium balloons will be involved. I encourage you all to come out though, at the very least, it will be nifty.

It's very likely that most everyone reading this does not care in the slightest, but on the off chance that you might, FINAL FANTASY XII IS RELEASED TOMORROW!

I've already reserved my collector's edition game (shiny, metal case), and collector's strategy guide (complete with art compilation). I fell in love with Final Fantasy years ago and every time a new one is released I get a little giddy.

I don't care that this one purchase will likely run me about $140. It's FINAL FANTASY!

Alright, I'm done.

On a slightly related note (in the sense that this may help me one day pay for the above mentioned obsession) I have a phone interview tomorrow with a cool music company here in Toronto. Wish me luck :-)

I love hot food in the morning after a long night of coding. But I love it even more when it's made and brought to me by a pretty girl :-)

I have an appointment with a nutritionist tomorrow at 12:15. I'm hoping I'll be able to get some advice as to which foods I need to get into me to hopefully solve this cloudy mess I find myself in. What better time to look into this than when I obviously have time time?

I went for a walk today on my lunch break. I figured that if I walked West long enough, I'd find somewhere worth eating at. I ended up dropping by a little family restaurant specialising in the easy stuff and sporting an outdoor patio. I wandered in, got a seat outside and ordered a clubhouse.

The clubhouse was... mediocre, but the fries were descent. The waitress brought me some vinegar to sprinkle over my fries and about half way through them I realised there were floaties in the vinegar.

The floaties were tiny little red flies.

They still charged me for lunch. I made no fuss as I'm just too tired today to get worked up about much of anything.

Amber, aka "Melanie's Australian" rocks from on high.

Nearly a year ago, I posted about an absolutely beautiful commercial featruing billions of little rubber balls bouncing through the streets of San Francisco to the music of Jose Gonzalez. The music was so pretty, that I've been searching for it on and off ever since.

...And now I have it. Titled "Heartbeats" it's on his "veneer" album and it's just as pretty as I remember it. The rest of the album is similarly brilliant.

Thanks Amber ;-)

Blatantly ripped off from Wyrd's blog:

  1. List 10 television series.
  2. Have your friends guess your favorite character from each one.
  3. I'll cross out the show and put the character when someone guesses.

Note that like her post, these aren't in any particular order (though I maintain that Babylon 5 is still the best)

Show Character Winner
Babylon 5 Delenn Melanie
Firefly River Melanie (x2)
Deep Space Nine Ben Sisko Ted (x2)
Sex and the City Charlotte Melanie
Alias Jack Bristow Angela
Alley McBeal Alley Melanie
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Willow Angela
Battlestar Galactica Adama Melanie (x2)
The Animaniacs Wacko Warner Ted
Angel Wesley Wyndam-Pryce Angela

Why do people who leave newspapers on the train think it's ok even after you call to them with "hey buddy, you forgot your paper"? Just a quick thought for the morning.

I'm on the train to work and I'm quite late. I blame Melanie 'cause she was so damned distracting while I was trying to get out of the house. I can't be mad at her thought 'cause she got me the coolest gifts ever last night while we were having Korean Barbecue. What were these wonderful gifts you ask? The first was a pair of tickets to see a show called "Videogames Live", a symphonic series that covers all sorts of music from our favourite video games. Imagine hearing the Zelda theme in a Massey Hall... It'll be frikkin' awesome. The second gift was a rose! Yes, I'm aware of the points deducted from my Man Card for getting excited over this, but she got me a rose! It's very pretty :-)

I am now going to plug in my controler and see if I can find my way to the 7th dungeon the Dark World before I get to my stop. Wish me luck :-)
