I love my food, this is not news to those who know me. However, given the degree to which I love my food, I'm quite surprised that I don't blog about it more often. I suppose then that it is a testament to the fabulousness of this particular dish that I should mention it here.

I had what was quite possibly the best Fettucini Alfredo ever on Friday at a little place on Yonge called Lokshen Alfredo. Let me explain: Most people think of Alfredo sauce as creamy and boring, even tasteless, and for most cases you'd be right. A lot of restaurants don't know what they're doing and will often put a little milk and parmesean in a bowl and pour it over pasta thinking they've done it right. Nothing could be further from the truth. An alfredo should be aromatic, it should hug your tastebuds on the way down. Alfredo should be thick and creamy: not too thin and not too thick either and its flavour should sing.

Lokshen Alfredo is open 7days/week and is more or less deserted during the lunch hour. Dinners are usually ok, but on Friday you might need a reservation. I can't recommend them enough. Go to Lokshen. Go. Love their pasta.

Gmail has made my life painful today and I thought that I would share.

Gmail is kinda cool, in that they allow you to use their SMTP servers to send outgoing mail and it even supports encryption so I don't have to worry about the office admins reading my mail or anything. However, what they fail to mention (or if they did, I missed it) is that it re-writes all of your mail headers so that it's no longer using the original FROM: address.

So in other words, instead of getting mail from my usual @danielquinn.org address, people were receiving mail from my @gmail.com address and replying to that... so I've been getting mail for months and not knowing it 'cause I don't check gmail. I've since fixed the problem (there's a setting buried deep in their options pages.) so it shouldn't be a problem anymore.

So for those of you who were wondering why I didn't respond to a letter or two, that's why. Sorry about that, but I blame Google.

As per my Meat Is Killing Us post, I ventured out into the vegetarian world yesterday on my lunch break. I decided that Milestones was a good place to start and spent about 10minutes looking over my options until I decided to order.

"I'm going to order something I've never had before", I told the waitress, "so if it turns out that I've left it all on my plate, I want you to know that it's not a reflection on the chef."

The waitress smiled, "alright, what is it then?"

"The veggie burger" I sighed.

"It's really good" she beamed, "I'm sure you'll love it."

The verdict on my first veggie burger ever:

  • Looks like cow
  • Smells like cow
  • Tastes like cow
  • Feels like soybean

Since I'm all about texture when it comes to food, I had a tough time forcing it down, but I finished it all... I just hope my choice for next week is better than this one.

Quinn sent me a copy of the IT crowed, a British show about the isolated IT department in a dysfunctional company. ...it's frickin' hilarious. I should have gone to bed hours ago, but instead I watched all six shows he sent me in one shot...

Thanks Quinn, I do hope you'll send more :-)

I took Melanie to see Wicked last night and was very impressed. What a wonderful story! The music composition, the incredible talent and just plain beautiful harmony... It was amazing.

The tickets aren't cheap, but so worth it. You will never see anything quite like it.
