in an attempt to break the seemingly constant line of political soapboxing...
"i am black" courtesy of smyli:

black
you are black.
boasting of power and mystery, you make for an
interesting person. but careful, you may scare
off any potential freinds with your short fuse.

what colour best represents your personality?

i've discovered the secret to having more energy to do all the stuff you have to do in a day. are you ready for it?

well that and stop going out with friends so much. it's amazing just how much energy i have at this very moment. i've been doing laundry since 8am and i did a bunch of dishes last night as well... and i don't feel wasted. i've got more canvassing tonight and more laundry tomorrow morning... all in slow preparation of chrystal and jeanie's arrival next, next weekend. natasha, pavel and anastasia want to go up to montreal this weekend to the tune of about $350 each, but i'm not sure my sanity can support it. the cost alone is rather steep, and i'd be doing all the driving... in montreal. i've got the election coming up on the 28th and i think i need to be here canvassing down to the last minute if i can... i dunno. i'll have to talk to the lot of them tonight, but i'm really not leaning in that direction at the moment.

sad news today. the actor who played "doctor stephen franklin" on babylon 5 died yesterday. this marks the second occasion in which the actor playing the doctor on a large-scale sci-fi series has been the first of the cast to die. the other case of course, was deforest kelly, who played "our man bones" or "doctor leonard mcoy" on the original star trek series.

according to toronto's metro newspaper, "parameditcs who treated biggs suggested 'the cause of death was "either an aneurysm or massive stroke'". biggs was 44.

well it's over. angel is finished. i don't think i liked the ending though. it didn't feel like an end -- probably because it was never intended to be. they killed off my favourite character and the whole thing ended in a hopeless battle... normally you'd think that that sounds like a cool ending, but in joss' world, you just know something really freakin' cool woulda happened next. what could joss have topped "well personally, i kinda wanna slay the dragon" with? i'm sad...

really sad to see it go. not only because it was an excellent show, but because it was good storytelling... storytelling that's being replaced with absolute garbage. sigh. o well. i guess i'll just have to buy the dvds and pretend there's still something good on. i'll be cancelling my cable in the morning.

some interesting quotes from the finale:
  • illyria: "i'll make trophies from their spines"
  • connor: "how do ya like that 'dress for less'?"
  • illyria: "would you like me to lie to you now?"
  • spike: "ephulgant"
  • gun: "what would you do if i said that nothing you do here mattered?"
  • angel: "can you guess which word in there you should have left out?"
all of the above paraphrased of course. joss is really quite brilliant -- i only hope that one day he'll find backers who are really interested in telling good stories as opposed to whatever the hell the wb is interested in.

i was looking at "linny" today, the penguin that noreen bought for me when she came out to visit and i thought: that name doesn't really fit. i mean, he's purple, like the mandrake penguin, so he should have a name related to that. but "mandrake the penguin"? no, that's just not right. then i thought about the term "mandrake"... what the hell is it anyway? the only reference to the word outside of the linux world i could recall was from harry potter's screaming mandrake root. and so, behold: "potato the penguin".

you remember those beer commercials where this guy was pretending to be monday and all these people are throwing shit at him and he's being all nice and polite? i like that commercial.

anyway. i managed to wake up at the ungodly hour of 8:10 this morning just so i could get into and out of work at a reasonable hour. why you ask? 'cause i'm having dinner with the pretty girl tomorrow night and i have absolutely nothing left to wear. all the hours i've spent on the sustainable living lady's stuff (or putting it off) has led to a backlog of dishes and laundry -- and i'm not showing up tomorrow in sweatpants (ew). so yeah: "t.g.i.m." good day to clean all this stuff up and catch up on everything.

one minor gripe though. when chrystal and i broke up a terrible balance was upset in our lives. together, she had all the cooking equipment and i did all the cooking. now, i tend to starve more and she eats popcorn for dinner. does that seem right to you?

it's a pretty day, so i took some pictures from my apartment to share. i've also included some shots of the wind turbine and the cn tower i took last weekend during my wanderings...

the colour in that last one appears a bit weird i know... photoshop's autolevels seems to have gibbled it somehow, but i'm not interested in changing it, so there you go ;-) and yes, that's the "lake" just past the buildings... it seems to go on forever, but still doesn't feel like the ocean.

my first post of the month, and it's based on a tv show... not a good omen i suppose... thanks be to jeanie and quizilla for these:

i'll never tell....
which buffy musical song are you?

and that was my least favourite song too... for the "which angel character are you", i was hoping to come out with wesley ('cause he's so damn cool) but with options like "lately, i drown my sorrows in booze and have sex with someone I hate" as a response to "what is your favourite pastime?" i just couldn't make it work.

you're fred!
which angel character are you?

curious... i had to edit this post and replace
images.quizilla.com/
with
live.quizilla.com/user_images/
in the image links to make it work. maybe someone up there is asleep at the keyboard?

i finally got my tshirt from diesel sweeties, an online comic angela introduced me to a while back. some time ago, they released a pretty cool comic that i read over and over again and i sent an email to the creator suggesting he make a tshirt out of it. i promised a purchase on my behalf.

apparently, i wasn't the only one who asked, and so he put it up for sale and i orded one a few weeks ago. the internet is just so damn cool.

"and the rest of the day to yerself" -- that's how you're supposed to respond to the above line in case anyone cares on this st. patricks day. so celebrate your irish-ness and wear yourself some green.

and in additional happy news, spacecast.com reports:

Angel Fans take note: rumours are circulating on the WB bulletin board that network execs are watching the ratings closely, considering a sixth season (after saying this would be the last season)

so regardless of the fact that it's likely to be a rerun tonight, WATCH THE FRICKIN' SHOW.
