watch this. it's exceptional. i saw it tonight on cbc's zed, a show i admittedly have skipped over it in the past, due to a great deal of what i considered crap... but tonight noam chomsky was sampled in a lot of the media, and this spoken word was the closing act. realplayer (linux, windows, osX) required.

edit:

the link above probably won't work 'cause cbc has some sort of external link protection on the file. so to see it, all you have to do is copy and paste the whole link into your realplayer client in order to see it. just go to "file > open location" and put in the following:
http://static.zed.cbc.ca/users/p/PrimaVera/files/Koyczan_OhCanada.ram
that should do it.

Their site is being updated so can't follow the link right now but...
It's SHAYNE!

See my review of Thundering Word Heard (where Shayne got his start) at the url above.

ZeD is temporarily down,
please check back later.
sigh...

i'm not sure if they noticed that i was getting at the realvideo file even though the site said "unavailable" or what, but that's what i get at http://static.zed.cbc.ca right now, the source server for the file. if it comes back up, i'll see if i can just grab it and mirror it here.

i'm not sure which is the right spelling, but zed has his name as Shane Koyczan and there's a few other files there that you can download on him if you're interested. would have loved to see him live though. i think i'll look into what kind of stuff of this nature is going on here in toronto...

well, for what it's worth, this one:

http://static.zed.cbc.ca/users/k/Kal/files/2_People_get_better.mov
seems to work just fine and it's pretty damn good too. it's called "people are getting better"

it's kinda weird. you have to copy and paste the link into your browser 'cause i think the server offers a big "fuck you" to those linking to the files remotely. not very internet-friendly if you ask me...
