this is the inscription on the peacekeeper monument, found on sussex ave, adjacent to the american embassy (go figure). the words on it were spoken by then prime minister lester b Pearson, one of my favourite Canadian leaders who among other things, developed star trek's "prime directive", though he didn't know it at the time.

the inscription is as follows:


we need action not only to end the fighting but to make the peace... my own government would be glad to recommend Canadian participation in such a United nations force, a truly international peace and police force
