this is the alley behind vfs. it's not special in any way, it's just an alley -- one of many all over the city. it's very much like the others, decorated with grafitii and reeking of urine, often populated with homeless looking for food or a place to crash. all the beauty in this city, and nested between each building, something like this.
vancouver's homelessness is terrible. the worst i've seen in Canada. some people attribute it to the weather, other to the socialistic laws the ndp installed in their 10+ year reign, but the fact of it is this: their reasons for being in vancouver are irrelevant as long as we're unwilling to look at the reasons for their existence in the first place. i wish i could just dismiss the whole thing by imagining that everyone sleeping in these corridors are just lazy and drug addicted, but i can't lie to myself like that.
this alley is the single most vivid image that changed my political mindset from right to left.
