ever heard of the tulip festival? well it's a big thing for the folks out here. apparently, the tulip isn't native to north america -- it was in fact a gift to Canada from the queen of the netherlands after wwII as a thankyou for Canada's support of her country's soverignty during the war. anyway, they have a big party out here every year, and this was setup as a memorial for the initial event.
